Real Madrid believe they will land Premier League ace — huge setback for Liverpool

Real Madrid are increasingly confident of landing Marc Guéhi on a free transfer when his Crystal Palace contract expires next summer, per The Sun. The 25-year-old England defender has become one of the most sought-after free agents in Europe, with strong interest from Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Barcelona. However, reports claim Guéhi’s preferred destination is the Bernabéu.

Inside sources at Real Madrid believe Guéhi is the ideal long-term successor to veterans David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger. His composure in possession, passing ability, and tactical awareness are viewed as a perfect match for Xabi Alonso’s defensive setup.

Real Madrid have high expectations for Guéhi, convinced that his leadership, maturity, and ball-playing quality will strengthen their defence.

Part of Madrid’s confidence reportedly comes from Guéhi’s growing admiration for his England teammates currently in La Liga. The centre-back has formed a close bond with Jude Bellingham, whose success in Spain is said to be influencing his decision. If he joins, Guéhi would also link up with another England star, Trent Alexander-Arnold, which could ease his transition to life in Madrid.

The news is a significant setback for Liverpool, who came close to signing Guéhi in the last summer window and remain keen on him for next year.

Sources say Guéhi is not interested in leaving mid-season and prefers to evaluate his options in the summer when he can negotiate freely. Crystal Palace appear to have accepted that he will move on, with the defender quietly becoming one of England’s most consistent performers.

If Real Madrid complete the deal, they will have beaten several major European clubs to secure the Premier League centre-back. Attention will now turn to Liverpool and how they respond to this setback in their defensive recruitment plans.
