Top Defender Chooses Liverpool Over Man Utd and Spurs

Liverpool are reportedly still in pole position to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, despite growing competition from other Premier League clubs as his contract approaches its final months.

The England international has been a standout performer for Palace but will become a free agent at the end of the season, sparking a transfer battle for his signature. According to Graeme Bailey (TBR Football), Manchester United are among the clubs ready to challenge Liverpool, as the situation has reopened following the Reds’ failed attempt to sign him last summer.

While Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be in contention, journalist Indy Kaila reports that Guehi still prefers a move to Liverpool, seeing Anfield as his ideal destination. The Reds could certainly use defensive reinforcements, with Ibrahima Konaté nearing the end of his contract and Virgil van Dijk entering the later stages of his career.

However, Manchester United might also view Guehi as a strong fit for their system, especially as they often deploy three centre-backs. With Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt inconsistent and Lisandro Martínez frequently injured, United could benefit from his stability and leadership.

Former United forward Louis Saha praised Guehi in an interview with the Manchester Evening News, urging his former club to act quickly:

> “Marc Guehi is a top player and a leader. I love his consistency and communication. If United can hijack Liverpool’s move—even by paying £20 million above his value—they should do it. He’s reliable and will definitely play for a big team competing for major trophies.”
