Liverpool may have found a solution to their left-back dilemma in 21-year-old James Norris, who could feature in this week’s League Cup quarter-final against Southampton.
The Reds’ usual left-back options are unavailable, with Andy Robertson suspended after a red card against Fulham and Kostas Tsimikas sidelined due to an ankle injury.
This situation presents an opportunity for Norris, who has been excelling for the youth team, playing every minute in Premier League 2 and contributing crucial goals.
Norris is no stranger to senior football, having debuted at 17 during the 2019/20 League Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa. He also made a brief appearance in an FA Cup third-round win over Shrewsbury Town in 2021/22 before spending last season on loan at Tranmere Rovers.
Manager Arne Slot confirmed that Norris, along with fellow youngster Amara Nallo, is being considered to start against Southampton.
“It’s very positive,” Slot said regarding Liverpool’s young players. “You mention these two, but there are others who have impressed in training.”
With Liverpool short on defensive options, Norris has a golden opportunity to prove himself as a reliable first-team player and potentially secure a regular spot in the squad.
