Liverpool transfer talk: Sky Sports clarifies interest in top defender

Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg has confirmed that Liverpool currently have no concrete plans to sign German international defender Nico Schlotterbeck, with Borussia Dortmund hoping to secure the player on a new contract. The centre-back has been linked with the Reds previously, but no deal is in motion. Meanwhile, German champions Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in acquiring him, though it remains uncertain whether they can finalize a deal.

 

Liverpool, however, are in need of a quality central defender. Schlotterbeck would have been a strong addition, particularly as Ibrahima Konate’s contract approaches its end. The French international has yet to agree to an extension, and if he leaves, the Premier League champions will need to find a top-class replacement.

 

Having already established himself in the Bundesliga, Schlotterbeck possesses the skills and experience to thrive in the Premier League. At the peak of his career, he could have made an immediate impact at Anfield, filling a critical gap in Liverpool’s defence.

 

The club now faces the challenge of identifying an alternative should Konate depart in the summer. Losing him on a free transfer would be a major blow, especially after recently allowing Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave for Real Madrid without a fee.
