Arne Slot delivers major Liverpool injury setback ahead of Manchester United showdown

Liverpool will be forced into a key change for Sunday’s clash with Manchester United after Arne Slot confirmed that Alisson Becker will miss the trip to Anfield.

During his pre-match press conference at the AXA Training Centre, the Reds’ boss provided a full injury update on Ryan Gravenberch, Ibrahima Konaté, and Alisson ahead of the 4:30pm kick-off.

“Ryan is completely fit, although we still have two more training sessions to go. If you ask me now, he’s fully ready,” said Slot.
“Ibou has returned, resumed training, and is expected to be with us today. The third one is Alisson — he’s not training, so he’s out.”

That means Liverpool receive a double boost in midfield and defence, but suffer a major setback between the posts.

Slot further confirmed that Alisson will not only miss this weekend’s game but will also be unavailable for next week’s fixture.

“He will not play this weekend and also not next week,” the Dutchman added.

With the Brazilian sidelined, Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to continue in goal. The Georgian, who joined from Valencia in the summer, has already impressed in his limited appearances.

Gravenberch’s return is a timely boost after doubts over his fitness following an early substitution on international duty, while Konaté’s recovery bolsters the backline — a crucial advantage with United expected to target Liverpool’s full-backs.

The Frenchman’s speed and aerial strength could prove decisive despite his recent dip in form.

Liverpool have already shown this season that depth and adaptability are hallmarks of Slot’s side, and Sunday’s encounter will be another test of those qualities as the Reds look to maintain their Premier League title defence.
