Sky Sports journalist provides new update on Liverpool’s reported interest in ‘top defender’

Liverpool have recently been linked with Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck, but Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has clarified that the Reds have shown no concrete interest in signing the German international. Dortmund, meanwhile, are reportedly keen to secure the “top defender” on a new contract. Schlotterbeck has been on Liverpool’s radar before, but this time, Bayern Munich appear to be the club most eager to land his signature.

 

Liverpool’s need for a reliable centre-back is clear, especially with Ibrahima Konaté’s contract set to expire at the end of the season. The Frenchman has yet to agree to an extension, raising the possibility of his departure. In that scenario, Schlotterbeck would have been an excellent replacement, given his proven quality in the Bundesliga and his readiness to perform at the highest level in the Premier League.
