Talks underway: Liverpool fans put on high alert following latest Sky Sports evening update

Florian Plettenberg reports that Bayern Munich have now shown interest in the Borussia Dortmund defender.

 

This comes after earlier claims suggesting Liverpool — who were strongly linked with the player — have no plans to pursue a deal in the January transfer window.

 

According to the Sky Germany journalist, Liverpool intend to stay patient regarding the Bayern-targeted centre-back. That stance may surprise some, given Giovanni Leoni’s ACL injury and Joe Gomez’s recurring fitness issues. Ibrahima Konate’s inconsistent start to the 2025/26 campaign has only added to defensive concerns at Anfield.

 

It’s unclear whether Liverpool’s recruitment team are simply keeping things quiet following a wave of speculation, but Plettenberg’s Thursday update on X (formerly Twitter) suggests Bayern are ready to make their move.

 

Still, it might be premature to rule Liverpool out completely. The Reds are known admirers of Nico Schlotterbeck, seeing him as a potential long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk. Sources close to Empire of the Kop have also claimed that the Dortmund star would be open to a Premier League switch.

 

Schlotterbeck recently showcased his ability during Germany’s 1-0 win over Northern Ireland in World Cup qualifying, earning widespread praise from local media — and reigniting transfer talk about Liverpool’s interest.

 

For now, though, Bayern appear to be leading the chase. A move this winter looks doubtful, with the Bundesliga champions unlikely to spend £60m — the player’s reported valuation — in January after enforcing a loans-only policy last summer.
