Liverpool are targeting Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi for a January transfer move.
The Reds had initially planned to sign the 25-year-old during the summer, and although Guehi reportedly completed his medical with the Premier League champions, the deal fell through after Palace refused to release him without finding a replacement.
According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool maintain a strong and “very concrete” interest in the England international and are pushing hard to complete the deal this winter. Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been linked with the player.
Liverpool’s need for a top-quality centre-back has become urgent following Giovanni Leoni’s season-ending injury, which leaves them with only three dependable defenders. With Ibrahima Konaté struggling for form, Guehi could challenge him for a starting role and potentially become an upgrade.
Konaté’s contract expires at the end of the season, and Liverpool are already planning ahead. Guehi, described by many as an “exceptional” talent, could be a long-term solution at the back.
The player himself is believed to be open to joining a major club like Liverpool. With his current deal expiring in the summer, Crystal Palace face mounting pressure to cash in during January rather than risk losing him for free. The coming months will determine how the transfer saga plays out.
