Several Liverpool fans have faced travel disruptions ahead of their Premier League meeting with Chelsea.
Severe weather has hit parts of England and Scotland, bringing heavy rain and strong winds overnight. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind across England.
In Merseyside, gusts reaching 50mph have forced parts of Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium to close, though the club still expects Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace to go ahead. While some non-league and FA Cup qualifying matches have been postponed due to the conditions, EFL fixtures have not yet been affected.
In London, winds are predicted to exceed 40mph until around 4pm before easing. Despite the challenging weather, Chelsea’s home match against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge is still scheduled to kick off at 5:30pm.
However, some Liverpool supporters have encountered problems traveling south, with journalist James Pearce reporting that trains from Liverpool Lime Street and Runcorn have been cancelled after strong winds damaged overhead power lines.
Over 5,000 Liverpool fans are expected to attend the match, though it remains unclear how many will be impacted by the travel issues. As of now, there are no plans to delay the 5:30pm kick-off.
Liverpool sit at the top of the Premier League table after winning five of their first six games. Yet, Arne Slot’s team have recently suffered back-to-back defeats—2-1 to Crystal Palace in the league and 1-0 to Galatasaray in the Champions League.
Chelsea, meanwhile, picked up a 1-0 win over Benfica in Europe during the week but have struggled for consistency, losing three of their last five matches in all competitions, with a red card in each of those defeats.
