The 17-year-old, who joined from Salford City in the summer despite rival interest from Arsenal, had to be carried off during a UEFA Youth League clash with Atletico Madrid. Wales boss Rob Page has since clarified that Wright escaped damage to his “main ligament,” though he is expected to be sidelined for roughly two months.

That prognosis is far more positive than initially feared, with early concerns suggesting a much longer absence. Reports in September had already estimated a five-to-seven-week layoff.

Meanwhile, fellow academy forward Jayden Danns faces his own spell out after picking up a hamstring injury in the U21s’ meeting with Ipswich Town. The 19-year-old had recently impressed with a standout display in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup win over Southampton.
