A new name is emerging from Liverpool’s academy, and he carries a familiar surname.
Liverpool’s youth system has a reputation for producing top-class talent, with club icons such as Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, and Jamie Carragher all beginning their journeys at Kirkby before becoming household names. Rio Ngumoha is the latest to shine, having impressed since joining the academy last year, but he isn’t the only youngster drawing attention.
Prince Kobe Cisse, son of former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse, is quickly making his own impact at Under-18 level. Djibril, who arrived at Anfield for a record £14 million in 2004, scored 24 goals in 79 appearances and lifted the 2005 Champions League trophy before later moving on to Marseille and Sunderland.
Now his son looks set to follow in his footsteps. Initially a winger, Prince Kobe has been converted into a centre-back this season — a rare transition also made by Trent Alexander-Arnold before his first-team breakthrough. The 16-year-old has adapted impressively, winning more than 60% of his defensive duels while also averaging 6.5 interceptions, nearly 13 recoveries, and almost 20 forward passes per game.
