Liverpool supporters have taken to social media to vent their frustration following the team’s disappointing Champions League defeat to Galatasaray.
On Tuesday night, the Reds travelled to Rams Park in Istanbul to face the Turkish Super Lig side. Just days earlier, Arne Slot’s men had already suffered their first loss of the season with a poor display against Crystal Palace, which reduced their lead at the top of the Premier League to just two points after Arsenal’s late win over Newcastle.
In front of a fiery atmosphere, Liverpool hoped for a strong start but were undone early when Victor Osimhen converted a penalty in the 16th minute after a foul by Dominik Szoboszlai.
The second half brought little improvement, with Alisson denying Osimhen a second before going off injured, forcing Giorgi Mamardashvili to step in. Slot turned to Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak from the bench in search of an equaliser, but Galatasaray stood firm to secure a crucial 1-0 victory.
After the final whistle, much of the fan anger on social media was directed at Ibrahima Konaté. Comments included:
“I’m absolutely done with Konate.”
“Leoni would be starting every game if not for his injury. Konate is Lovren level bad right now.”
“Konaté is finished.”
“If Konate won’t commit to Liverpool, he should sit on the bench until he makes up his mind.”
“Konate has been shocking this season.”
“Gomez deserves a run of games ahead of him.”
Konaté’s future remains uncertain, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season amid heavy links to Real Madrid.
Liverpool now turn their attention back to the Premier League, with a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Saturday.
