Report: Arsenal and Chelsea planning an unexpected move to sign a “fantastic player” from Liverpool.

Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly exploring a surprising transfer for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.

The 26-year-old is set to become a free agent this summer, having yet to agree on a contract extension with Liverpool. According to TBR Football, Liverpool remains optimistic about renewing his deal but anticipates strong interest from other clubs. The report also mentions that agents have informed teams such as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City that Konate might be available on a free transfer next summer. Liverpool are keen on extending Konate’s contract. Graeme Bailey from TBR Football stated: “Liverpool’s preferred outcome is a new contract for Konate alongside signing Guehi on a free transfer, but football is unpredictable, and neither may happen. Richard Hughes has competed against top European clubs this summer, bringing in players like Isak, Kerkez, and Ekitike – Liverpool are not intimidated either on or off the pitch.

“Regarding Konate, Liverpool recognizes that offers could come not only from Madrid or Munich but also from clubs like Chelsea, especially if he’s available for free. Though they hope it doesn’t come to that.”

At 26, the French international is considered one of the league’s top defenders and would be a significant signing. While Arsenal already have a solid defensive line, they wouldn’t want to miss out on a player of Konate’s calibre, who might be an upgrade on Gabriel Magalhaes.
