Liverpool have received a positive update and a surprise ahead of their weekend trip to Crystal Palace, as new footage from Sky Sports showcases both Alexander Isak’s progress and the inclusion of a lesser-known academy winger.
Isak’s fitness update comes as Ekitike is unavailable
The £125 million striker has been steadily regaining his sharpness since joining from Newcastle, and was recently seen training fully at the AXA Centre.
Sky Sports noted he is “still building up his fitness” but confirmed that the Swedish forward is “clearly out there training now.”
This news arrives while Hugo Ekitike serves a suspension after receiving a second yellow card for removing his shirt during a celebration in the Carabao Cup win over Southampton.
Ekitike has apologized on Instagram for his actions and is likely to face disciplinary measures from manager Arne Slot for the costly lapse in judgment.
Since joining Liverpool, Ekitike has been in good form with five goals and one assist in eight appearances. However, his absence means the manager will rely on Isak or Federico Chiesa to spearhead the attack at Selhurst Park.
Chiesa has been praised for his influence, with Sky highlighting that he “provided both assists against Southampton” and is steadily “cementing his role in the team.”
Kieran Morrison seen training with the first team
Alongside the senior forwards, journalist Lewis Bower spotted a new face during training.
Responding to the Sky Sports clip on X, he commented: “Kieran Morrison in first-team training ahead of Crystal Palace tomorrow. Briefly pictured.”
The 18-year-old winger, who attracted attention from Wolves, Burnley, and German clubs over the summer, has chosen to remain at Liverpool and is expected to sign a new contract before his current deal expires.
Morrison has already featured on the bench for the League Cup, and with Giovanni Leoni sidelined due to an ACL injury, he continues to train with the senior squad while other academy players have returned to the U21s.
The young winger has impressed under Rob Page at the U21 level, primarily playing on the right wing, and his inclusion in first-team sessions shows how highly he is regarded.
With Isak still regaining full fitness and Ekitike out, Morrison’s involvement adds an interesting option as Liverpool prepare to face Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace side, who remain unbeaten in their last 17 Premier League games.
