Liverpool reacted on social media after Mohamed Salah finished a disappointing fourth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings.
On Monday evening, many top players and managers gathered at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris for the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony.
After Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmati claimed the women’s award for the third consecutive year, the men’s trophy was presented. Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembele, who was the favorite, won the 2025 Ballon d’Or, ahead of Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and PSG teammate Vitinha.
Liverpool’s Salah, who had an outstanding 2024/25 season with 57 goal contributions, placed fourth.
Though Salah was among the frontrunners, he did not attend the event. Liverpool’s delegation included captain Virgil van Dijk, goalkeeper Alisson Becker, and manager Arne Slot. After Salah’s placement was announced, Liverpool posted on social media: “A season to savour from Salah,” sharing several photos of the 33-year-old.
The full top 10 of the 2025 Ballon d’Or standings were:
1. Ousmane Dembele
2. Lamine Yamal
3. Vitinha
4. Mohamed Salah
5. Raphinha
6. Achraf Hakimi
7. Kylian Mbappe
8. Cole Palmer
9. Gianluigi Donnarumma
10. Nuno Mendes
Following his win, Dembele said: “I’m grateful to everyone at PSG. President Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Luis Enrique have been like father figures to me. I also thank my former clubs: Dortmund, Rennes, and Barcelona. I’ve had the chance to play alongside legends like Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi. Winning the Ballon d’Or wasn’t a career goal, but it’s incredible to receive it. I worked hard for the team to win the Champions League, and being honored with this trophy makes me very happy tonight.”
