Liverpool sit at the top of the Premier League with a flawless start to the season, and according to Gary Neville, what should concern their rivals most is that the team hasn’t even hit full stride yet.
Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast for Sky Sports Premier League, the former Manchester United defender described Liverpool’s form as “ominous” for the rest of the league, noting the team’s strength in depth and growing confidence.
Neville elaborated:
“It’s ominous because at times they’ve just about managed to get through games – not necessarily in the match against Everton – but they’ve often found goals late on. And it’s worrying for others because I don’t think they’ve reached their peak yet.
“They haven’t even settled on their strongest starting XI, and they’re still not fielding their best lineup consistently.”
He also pointed to the heavy investment made in the squad over the summer.
“With players like Wirtz and Isak brought in for a combined £250 million, we’ve yet to see them fully click or reach their full potential. They’re not even in sync yet, but the talent is clearly there.”
This will be exciting news for Liverpool fans, especially as marquee signings Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak are still adapting to Arne Slot’s system. Despite that, Hugo Ekitike has hit the ground running, easing the pressure on the club’s big-money forwards – a performance that hasn’t gone unnoticed by the manager.
Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk continues to dominate defensively and has praised Ryan Gravenberch for hitting top form, contributing to the team’s strong performances week after week.
