Liverpool’s newest breakout star from the academy, Rio Ngumoha, has already made a name for himself — and now he’s reportedly in line for one of the biggest salary jumps in the club’s history. After scoring a dramatic last-minute winner against Newcastle just days before turning 17, Ngumoha is currently earning just £300 a week at the club’s Kirkby academy.

According to Adam Williams of TBR Football, Liverpool maintains a firm wage policy for first-year professionals, capping salaries at £52,000 annually. Ngumoha will fall under that structure when he signs his first professional contract. However, the actual financial package is expected to be far more substantial.
With bonuses tied to appearances, goals, and tournament progress, Ngumoha’s total earnings could reach up to £1 million a year — a staggering 7,000% increase from his current deal.
Williams stated: “Liverpool cap first-year pro wages at £52,000 per year, but with performance bonuses included, he’ll likely earn much more. I’d be shocked if it ends up being less than £1m annually.” The report also notes the inclusion of structured pay increases, image rights agreements, and protective clauses designed to reward Ngumoha without disrupting the overall wage balance within the squad.
Early Impact at Liverpool
Ngumoha, an England youth international, has already featured in four senior matches, scoring once. He also became Liverpool’s youngest-ever Champions League debutant after appearing against Atletico Madrid, highlighting the trust placed in him by the coaching staff.
This rapid progress is even more notable considering Chelsea allowed him to leave their academy, opting instead to focus on international prospects such as Kendry Paez and Estevao.
