Concerns have arisen that the upcoming Liverpool vs Everton match might be postponed following a weather warning issued by the Met Office.
The first Merseyside Derby of the 2025/26 season is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Anfield.
Liverpool, currently leading the Premier League, aim to maintain their perfect start to the season, having already secured wins over Bournemouth, Newcastle United, Arsenal, and Burnley. Everton, sitting sixth in the table, have made a solid start themselves, picking up seven points from their opening four games against Leeds United, Brighton, Wolves, and Aston Villa.
However, ahead of the weekend fixture, worries have surfaced about potential disruption due to weather conditions.
According to The Liverpool Echo, the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, with additional alerts for northern England that could affect the Merseyside Derby.
Heavy and persistent rainfall is forecast for the northwest, accompanied by strong winds starting Saturday afternoon.
The Met Office has warned of possible flooding and transport delays. The warning is in effect from 9am Saturday until 6am Sunday.
As of now, there are no official plans to postpone the game, but supporters traveling to Anfield for the lunchtime kick-off should be prepared for possible travel issues.
Notably, back in December 2024, a Merseyside Derby scheduled at Goodison Park was postponed due to severe weather caused by Storm Darragh, which disrupted sports events across the UK. That game was eventually played in February, ending in a 2-2 draw after James Tarkowski’s dramatic late goal — marking the final derby to be held at Goodison Park.
