Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konaté has reportedly told the club he will not be renewing his contract at Anfield.
The French international has been a key figure for the Reds, but it appears he’s decided it’s time for a new challenge. According to Fichajes, Konaté has communicated his decision to the club, and Liverpool have accepted it.
The report suggests he is likely to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed via YouTube that Real Madrid have a genuine interest in Konaté, with the situation having been on their radar for some time.
With his contract nearing its end, Konaté’s departure seems increasingly likely, especially amid previous speculation linking him with both Real Madrid and Chelsea. Liverpool are running out of time to extend his stay, and as things stand, the 26-year-old looks set to leave as a free agent.
Losing Konaté would be another setback for Liverpool. Despite a strong summer window—bringing in the likes of Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, and Hugo Ekitike—they’ve already lost Trent Alexander-Arnold, who also let his contract run down before joining Madrid. That deal eventually involved a small fee to allow an earlier move in time for the Club World Cup.
Now, Konaté may follow a similar path, and Liverpool will need to start searching for a quality replacement for the influential defender.
