Manchester City Join Liverpool in Pursuit of Marc Guéhi
Manchester City have reportedly joined the chase for England international Marc Guéhi, who currently captains Crystal Palace. This move sets up a potential transfer battle with Liverpool. While City have not yet made a formal bid, reports suggest they are preparing to compete with Liverpool for the defender’s signature ahead of the 2026 season.
Guéhi was close to joining Liverpool during the recent transfer window, with a deal nearly finalized — including an agreed fee and medical examinations. However, the transfer fell through when Crystal Palace couldn’t secure a suitable replacement in time.
According to Football Insider, City view Guéhi as a key target and are seriously considering making a move. They might wait until he becomes available on a free transfer next summer or look to negotiate a lower-fee deal sooner.
Since joining Palace in 2021, Guéhi has become a cornerstone of their defense and earned the captain’s armband. His strong performances have also made him a regular in the England national team.
If City manage to land Guéhi, it would bolster their defensive options — an area where they’ve had depth but have struggled for consistent stability, even with talents like John Stones and Ruben Dias.
Challenging Liverpool for Guéhi would also underline City’s ambition in the transfer market. In such high-stakes signings, timing and negotiation could prove decisive.
Looking ahead, both clubs may aim to strike a pre-contract agreement with Guéhi in January for a summer move. But if either team acts quickly in the winter window, they might be able to secure his services ahead of their rivals.
Guéhi has consistently impressed both in the Premier League and with the England squad whenever given the opportunity.
