Liverpool Fans React as Alexander Isak Shines in Sweden Training After Newcastle Fallout
Liverpool supporters quickly took to social media to share their reactions after training footage of Alexander Isak emerged online.
The 25-year-old striker officially joined Liverpool on transfer deadline day for a British record fee of £125 million, ending a drawn-out summer saga by signing a six-year deal with the Premier League champions.
Isak hasn’t featured in a competitive match since Newcastle’s 1-0 home defeat to Everton on the final day of the 2024/25 season. Throughout most of the transfer window, he kept a low profile until he released a surprise statement accusing Newcastle of breaking key promises—a claim the club has denied.
Sweden’s national team coach, Jon Dahl Tomasson, maintained close contact with Isak during the ordeal and still included him in the squad for upcoming international fixtures against Slovenia and Kosovo, despite his lack of match fitness.
Other Premier League players like Viktor Gyokeres (Arsenal), Anthony Elanga (Newcastle), Lucas Bergvall (Spurs), Emil Krafth (Newcastle), and Gabriel Gudmundsson (Leeds) also made the Swedish squad, which is currently preparing for Friday’s game against Slovenia in Ljubljana. The Swedish FA shared training footage on social media, and unsurprisingly, Isak drew the most attention.
Clips of Isak shared on Sweden’s official X (formerly Twitter) account quickly went viral, exciting Liverpool fans.
One fan posted: “He hasn’t played in three months and still looks this sharp—unreal. Can’t wait for the season to restart.”

Toni Kroos Offers Blunt Opinion on Isak
Despite Isak’s rising profile in the Premier League, former Real Madrid and Germany star Toni Kroos suggested many German fans are still unaware of him.
Speaking on a podcast with his brother Felix, the 2014 World Cup winner said:
“I trust our listeners, but I’d guess half of them have never even heard of Isak. You decide for yourselves. Seriously.”
He also remarked: “That’s a massive fee, no question.”
Isak previously spent time in Germany with Borussia Dortmund between 2017 and 2019 but made only 13 senior appearances during his stint there.
