Liverpool’s Move for Marc Guehi Collapses
Liverpool’s attempt to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has fallen through. The 25-year-old was expected to complete a move this summer after both clubs reportedly agreed on a £35 million fee, and Guehi even underwent a medical, according to David Ornstein. However, the deal was called off after Crystal Palace failed to secure a replacement in time.
Possible January Move
Liverpool may revisit their interest in Guehi during the January transfer window. With the defender entering the final year of his contract, his market value could drop further, making him a more affordable target. Given Liverpool’s ongoing need for another quality centre-back, the England international remains a strong candidate.
Frustration for the Player
Guehi is likely disappointed by the collapsed transfer, especially as it would have been a major step forward in his career. The failed move could create tension, and it remains to be seen how smoothly he can reintegrate into the Palace squad. After this setback, he’s even less likely to sign a contract extension with the club and could leave for a cut-price fee in January or walk away for free next summer.
Liverpool’s Short-Term Plans
In the meantime, Liverpool will have to rely on Joe Gomez and young defender Giovanni Leoni to back up Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté. Whether they can manage until January without any defensive issues remains to be seen.
