Liverpool have reportedly secured a deal for Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. The fee is said to be £130 million for the Swedish striker, following Newcastle’s successful signing of Nick Woltemade from Bayern Munich.
Viaplay’s Jan Aage Fjortoft has now confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the deal between Liverpool and Newcastle for Isak is “done.” However, the official announcement may be delayed until after Newcastle’s upcoming Premier League match against Leeds United on Saturday. While this report hasn’t been confirmed by Merseyside or Tyneside journalists, it hasn’t been dismissed either.
With Woltemade now onboard as a potential replacement for Isak, the likelihood of a move to Liverpool has increased, especially if Newcastle successfully negotiates with Wolves for Jørgen Strand Larsen.
Reports suggest that Liverpool is prepared to improve on their initial £110 million bid for Isak, despite online backlash. The initial offer was viewed more as a starting point for negotiations, not an expectation of immediate acceptance from Newcastle. It’s unlikely Liverpool would have agreed to Newcastle’s £150 million asking price, but £130 million is still a significant sum for one of the Premier League’s top talents.
However, new updates from Ben Jacobs and Alex Crook suggest Liverpool is reluctant to let the price reach £130 million, though the club is reportedly committed to signing Isak.
In other news, Dominic King of the Daily Mail reports that Liverpool may not make any further signings before the transfer deadline. Crystal Palace has already indicated that Marc Guehi won’t be allowed to leave, meaning Liverpool may miss out on the English defender. Nonetheless, it seems unlikely Newcastle will reject a record-breaking bid for Isak now that they have a replacement in place.
