European giants plan unexpected last-minute bid for “elite, elite, elite professional” Liverpool player.

AC Milan are reportedly eyeing a move for Liverpool defender Joe Gomez before the summer transfer window shuts.

The 28-year-old is not a regular starter for Liverpool and serves as a backup option for the Premier League champions. It remains to be seen whether he would be tempted to join the Italian side, as he’s also been linked with other clubs.

Gomez Would Strengthen Milan
There’s no doubt Gomez has the quality to start for Milan and could prove a valuable addition at the right price. Milan are looking to bolster their defensive depth and have been connected to several players recently, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Gomez would be a perfect fit for them. Not only is he a solid defender, but his versatility—able to play in central defense, full-back, or even as a defensive midfielder—adds another layer to Milan’s backline. His ball skills are impressive too, offering a new dynamic to their defense.

Liverpool Must Retain Gomez
That said, Liverpool are already thin in defense, with only three experienced center-backs. It seems unlikely they would let Gomez go at this stage. Though there have been rumors about a potential move for Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, that deal has yet to materialize.

As the window draws to a close, it will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds. Liverpool will need to maintain squad depth to compete across multiple competitions, especially as they aim to defend their Premier League title and challenge in the UEFA Champions League.

Gomez has been a reliable squad member for Liverpool over the years, and with manager Arne Slot praising him as a “top, top, top professional,” the club will likely want to keep him for the season ahead.
