A series of events may be set in motion that could see Newcastle’s Alexander Isak make a move to Liverpool.
The Swedish striker’s transfer saga has been a major talking point this summer, with reports suggesting Liverpool are keen to strengthen their attack by adding the 25-year-old to their ranks.
Isak recently shared on social media that his relationship with Newcastle “can’t continue,” citing unmet promises about his future at the club.
The forward was pivotal in Newcastle’s successful 2024/2025 season, scoring 27 goals and providing six assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. His 33 goal contributions played a major role in helping the Magpies secure a fifth-place finish in the Premier League, earning them a spot in the UEFA Champions League.
Additionally, Newcastle lifted their first major trophy since 1969, defeating Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final.
Despite his key role in the club’s success, Isak could be on the move, though several factors still need to align before any transfer happens.
For Isak to join Liverpool, Newcastle will first need to find a replacement, and reports indicate that could be close to happening. Fabrizio Romano has stated that Wolves have agreed to sign 24-year-old Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare from Genk, who netted 23 goals and provided seven assists last season in Belgium.
Should Arokodare move to Molineux, it could clear the path for Newcastle to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen. The Norwegian forward has been linked with a move to the Magpies for weeks, after impressing for Wolves in the 2024/2025 season, where he scored 14 goals and contributed five assists in 38 appearances.
Strand Larsen’s potential move to Newcastle could be the key piece that allows Isak’s transfer to Liverpool to move forward. With both Wolves and Newcastle strengthening their forward lines, Liverpool would likely have a better chance of convincing Eddie Howe’s side to part with Isak.
Liverpool have won both of their opening Premier League matches, defeating Bournemouth 4-2 and securing a 3-2 win over Newcastle. Meanwhile, Newcastle are still searching for their first win, having drawn 0-0 with Aston Villa in their opening game.
