Liverpool is among several top clubs interested in another Premier League player as they continue their pursuit of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.
The 25-year-old Isak has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool throughout the summer transfer window. Earlier this month, Liverpool made a £110 million-plus add-ons bid, which Newcastle rejected.
Isak has not featured for Newcastle since the final game of the 2024/25 Premier League season and recently expressed frustration, stating that promises made to him had been broken. Despite his clear desire to leave, Newcastle is unlikely to approve his departure until they secure two new forwards. Manager Eddie Howe’s team is targeting Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade before the September 1 deadline.
According to Sky Sports, Newcastle has agreed a deal worth £64.86 million (€75 million) plus £4.3 million (€5 million) in add-ons for Woltemade, which could pave the way for Isak’s exit.
However, Liverpool’s transfer activity this summer might not be finished yet.
Despite already signing nine players—including Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, and Jeremie Frimpong—reports from Caught Offside indicate that Liverpool, along with Manchester City and Real Madrid, are interested in Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.
Wharton, 21, has impressed since joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers in 2024. He earned his first England cap last summer and was included in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.
Caught Offside reports that Palace could demand a fee as high as £100 million for Wharton. Liverpool, City, and Real Madrid are currently leading the race for the midfielder, though Manchester United and Tottenham have shown long-term interest.
A source told Caught Offside that Tottenham had direct contact with Palace before the Community Shield but are now focusing on signing Xavi Simons. Additionally, João Palhinha joined Palace on loan from Bayern Munich and is expected to play as their ‘number six’ this season.
“City have been tracking Wharton’s progress for months and are considering a bid,” the source added, also noting that Real Madrid is evaluating the financial aspects of a potential deal. Wharton is under contract with Palace until 2029.
