Liverpool have confirmed a new addition to their staff at Anfield during the final week of the summer transfer window.

Liverpool appoint Luiz Fernando Iubel to Slot’s coaching staff
According to James Pearce of The Athletic, Liverpool have named Luiz Fernando Iubel as their new individual development lead coach. Iubel, 36, recently stepped down from his assistant coach role at Atletico Mineiro in Brazil.
Iubel’s arrival will lead to a shift for Aaron Briggs, who will leave his current position to become Liverpool’s first-team set piece coach. Although Briggs has been focusing on set pieces since joining the club 13 months ago, this is the first time the role has been officially recognized.
Iubel was selected following a thorough four-stage global recruitment process involving Slot and other senior Liverpool figures. His reputation for nurturing young talent in Brazil, including players like Igor Paixao (now at Marseille) and Igor Jesus (Nottingham Forest), made him stand out.
He will work with Liverpool’s first team, under-21s, and under-18s, as well as supporting loaned players as they progress towards the senior squad.
Iubel’s background and potential impact at Liverpool
Before joining Atletico Mineiro, Iubel had several spells as interim first-team manager at Cuiaba, giving him valuable experience, especially in developing young players.
He could play a key role in advancing the careers of promising Liverpool teenagers like Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni, both of whom have recently impressed with the senior team, particularly Ngumoha.
Meanwhile, Briggs’ formal appointment as set piece coach acknowledges his strong contributions in that area, which have been praised as a smart move by Pearce during the 2024/25 season.
While Arne Slot will receive most credit for the team’s on-field achievements, he relies heavily on his backroom team’s expertise. The addition of Iubel represents another strategic recruitment decision by Liverpool.
The hope is that Iubel will make a significant behind-the-scenes impact, helping young talents like Ngumoha and Nyoni continue their promising development at Anfield.
