Liverpool preparing Guehi bid as clock ticks on transfer window
Liverpool have maintained a strong interest in Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi for some time but are yet to submit an official offer. That could soon change, with talks ongoing between the two clubs over a potential deal for the 25-year-old defender.
Both Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein reported on Tuesday that Anfield would be Guehi’s preferred destination should he leave Selhurst Park, where he’s now in the final year of his contract.
With just five days remaining in the transfer window, the pressure is on Liverpool’s owners, FSG, to act if they want to secure the England international’s services this season.
Romano confirms Liverpool ready to bid
In an update shared via his YouTube channel on Wednesday, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano revealed that Liverpool are now prepared to make a move, potentially offering more than £30 million for Guehi. However, any deal would likely hinge on Palace first securing a replacement.
“Liverpool are ready to go for Guehi,” said Romano. “They haven’t changed their stance. He’s been a target alongside Giovanni Leoni, and now it’s about waiting on Palace. If Palace give the green light after strengthening their defence, Liverpool are ready to finalize the deal. If not, they may wait and try to sign Guehi as a free agent in 2026.”
Romano emphasized that Liverpool want to complete the transfer now, but the final decision rests with Palace—either sell now or risk losing him for nothing later.
Liverpool must act fast if they want their man
Palace reportedly want £45 million for their skipper, and Liverpool’s likely opening bid of just over £30 million is expected to fall short. However, it’s common practice not to lead with their best offer, and the club could be testing the waters to gauge Palace’s stance.
Should a deal not materialize before the deadline, Liverpool could still aim to sign Guehi on a free next year. But that comes with the risk of him renewing his contract with Palace in the meantime.
With Liverpool’s defence showing vulnerability early in the season, a move for Guehi makes strategic sense. If Palace manage to reinforce their backline soon, expect Liverpool to make a formal approach for the centre-back in the coming days.
Even if sporting director Richard Hughes can’t finalize the transfer before Monday’s 7pm deadline, a serious push for the player is anticipated. If Liverpool are indeed “ready,” now is the time to act.
