Liverpool have been closely linked with Marc Guehi for a while, but they haven’t yet made an official offer for the Crystal Palace captain—though that could change soon.
The two clubs have been in discussions about a possible transfer for the 25-year-old, with Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein confirming on Tuesday that if Guehi leaves Selhurst Park, Anfield is his preferred destination. He is currently in the final year of his contract at Palace.
With only five days left in the transfer window, FSG are running out of time if they want to secure the England international for the rest of the season.
Romano: Liverpool ‘ready’ to make a move for Guehi
On Wednesday afternoon, Romano shared an update on his YouTube channel, revealing that Liverpool are prepared to make a bid for the centre-back, though the deal might depend on Palace strengthening their defense first.
Romano said: “Liverpool are ready to offer over £30 million and sign Marc Guehi before the window closes. They remain interested and haven’t changed their stance. Weeks ago, it was Leoni and Guehi — what happens now? Liverpool are waiting on Palace. This situation is similar to Alexander Isak’s transfer, but with less tension.
“This transfer depends on Palace. If they find a replacement and agree to let Guehi negotiate, Liverpool are ready to finalize the deal. If not, Liverpool will wait to sign him as a free agent in 2026.
“Liverpool want to act now, but it depends on Palace. They must decide whether to keep Guehi and risk losing him for free in 2026 or find a replacement and let him go now.”
If Liverpool are ‘ready,’ the time to act is now!
The Eagles are reportedly asking for £45 million for their captain (according to Miguel Delaney), so Liverpool’s initial offer of just over £30 million might be rejected. However, Liverpool likely expect this and are waiting to see Palace’s response before deciding whether to increase their bid.
Liverpool could still sign Guehi on a free transfer next year if a deal isn’t reached now, but that would give the player time to possibly extend his contract and end transfer speculation.
With Liverpool’s defense looking shaky early in the season, it’s expected that a bid for the 25-year-old will be made soon—especially if Palace strengthen their defense in the meantime.
Even if Richard Hughes can’t secure the centre-back before the 7pm deadline next Monday, it’s hoped there will at least be a serious attempt to bring him from Selhurst Park. If the Reds are truly ‘ready’ to act, hopefully that will happen soon.
