Jamie Carragher didn’t hold back in celebrating Rio Ngumoha’s thrilling stoppage-time winner on Monday night!
The 16-year-old had a dream Premier League debut, scoring just four minutes after coming on as a substitute to secure a hard-earned 3-2 victory for Liverpool at Newcastle’s St James’ Park.
In doing so, Ngumoha made history as the youngest-ever goalscorer for Liverpool, just days before his 17th birthday, in only his second senior competitive match.
Carragher’s wild reaction to Ngumoha’s late winner
While working in the Sky Sports studio for Monday Night Football, Carragher’s exuberant response to Ngumoha’s goal was caught on camera.
The 46-year-old celebrated wildly, running around and shouting, “Oh my God! Wow! You lucky, lucky Reds. Football – what a game! Oh my God, what is going on? This has to be one of the greatest Premier League games ever!”

Though Carragher’s praise may be a bit over the top, it’s easy to understand his excitement as the teenage winger’s goal ended a dramatic match filled with five goals, a red card, and several yellow cards.
Even amid his excitement, Carragher admitted Liverpool were fortunate, and after the initial euphoria, it was clear the champions had escaped trouble thanks to Ngumoha’s 100th-minute strike.
This marked the second consecutive game where Arne Slot’s team lost a 2-0 lead, requiring a late substitute hero to snatch victory.
What will frustrate Liverpool’s manager even more is that despite playing against ten men for the entire second half, Newcastle had more shots after halftime (4 to 3) and seemed the more likely team to score late.
Thankfully, Ngumoha stepped up when Liverpool needed him most, sparking wild celebrations from Carragher and millions of Reds fans around the world after a chaotic 100 minutes of football!
