Newcastle United have reportedly made a significant decision regarding Alexander Isak’s future amid interest from Liverpool.
The Magpies are set to face Liverpool at St James’ Park on Monday evening, but once again, they’ll be without Isak, who remains sidelined and is currently training separately from the main squad.
Last week, Isak publicly expressed his desire to leave the club and accused Newcastle of failing to keep their promises.
Now, just over a week after the transfer window closed, it’s reported that Newcastle have taken decisive steps.
According to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, club co-owner Jamie Reuben and executive Jacobo Solis visited Isak at his home for crucial talks about his future. They are reportedly open to discussing a new contract — but only if Isak commits to staying and playing for the team this season.
Isak’s current deal, which runs until 2028, has been central to the ongoing saga with Liverpool. Talks of a new contract date back to the start of last season, but despite expectations, no new terms were offered. Hope reports that former sporting director Paul Mitchell chose not to proceed with a new deal at that time.
