Newcastle United issued an official response on Tuesday night following a fiery statement from Alexander Isak.
The 25-year-old striker, eager to secure a move to Liverpool, expressed his frustrations on social media amid Newcastle’s reluctance to negotiate a transfer. Isak accused others of spreading misleading versions of events that don’t accurately reflect what was said. He also claimed that certain promises made to him were broken and insisted that the club has been aware of his position for a long time.
He concluded his statement by saying, “When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things stand for me now – which is why a change benefits everyone, not just myself.”
Newcastle’s reaction to Isak’s statement
In response, Newcastle expressed disappointment over Isak’s public outburst and reiterated that they will not sell the player unless it’s on their terms.
The club’s official statement read:
“We are disappointed to have seen Alexander Isak’s social media post this evening.
We want to be clear that Alex is under contract and no club official has ever promised him the option to leave this summer. While we value our best players, we respect their wishes and listen carefully to their views.
As we have communicated to Alex and his representatives, the best interests of Newcastle United, the team, and our supporters guide all decisions. We have been clear that the conditions required for a sale this summer have not been met, and we do not expect them to be met.
This club has proud traditions and a family atmosphere that we strive to maintain. Alex remains part of that family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”
Is a transfer still possible?
Following these developments, Isak’s future remains uncertain. Newcastle’s statement suggests they are not completely closed off to selling him, but only if it benefits the club. Had Newcastle, rather than Manchester United, secured Benjamin Sesko, they might be more open to letting Isak go.
The club recognizes the striker’s feelings but does not anticipate Liverpool meeting their valuation before the transfer window closes in 12 days. While Newcastle offers Isak a chance to return when ready, the player seems unwilling to reconcile and may remain in limbo if the club refuses to sell.
There’s still a possibility Liverpool could complete the transfer if Newcastle agrees to the sale—something that looks unlikely unless they manage to bring in a replacement forward first.
