Liverpool Refuse to Back Down in Pursuit of Alexander Isak Amid Record-Breaking Offer
Liverpool remain determined to sign Alexander Isak, having reportedly approved a club-record bid for the Newcastle United striker. Despite Newcastle’s firm stance and rejection of a £110 million offer, the Reds are undeterred in their chase for their top attacking target.
Isak, who has been training alone and is reportedly refusing to play, is believed to want a move away from St James’ Park. Newcastle have maintained that the Swedish international is not for sale, even as tensions grow behind the scenes.
However, The Sun reports that Liverpool are still confident they can persuade Newcastle to sell, potentially with a British-record offer of £130 million. The situation adds an extra layer of drama to the upcoming clash between the two clubs at St James’ Park, Newcastle’s first home match of the season, following their goalless draw with Aston Villa.
Isak, who was jeered by travelling fans during the Villa match, is unlikely to see any formal bid materialize until after Monday’s game. Liverpool are also keeping tabs on Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who could be available for £35 million due to his contract expiring next summer. A double deal for Isak and Guehi would push Liverpool’s summer spending to a staggering £466 million.
Adding to the tension, Isak reportedly turned down a lucrative new contract from Newcastle that included a release clause set for 2026.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano shared that Liverpool remain quietly persistent in their efforts to sign Isak. “Liverpool are silent but not inactive,” Romano said. “They’re ready to make another offer if Newcastle show any openness to negotiate. They haven’t approached any other striker – the focus is solely on Isak.”
As the transfer saga unfolds, Liverpool are patiently waiting for an opening to secure the striker they’ve made their clear priority.
