Tottenham might unintentionally assist a new club in prying Alexander Isak away from Liverpool by triggering a financial boost, as Thomas Frank targets a new signing.
Premier League clubs are actively working behind the scenes to bolster their squads before next month’s transfer deadline.
Both Liverpool and Spurs have already made significant investments this summer. The Reds have brought in players such as Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, and Jeremie Frimpong. Meanwhile, Spurs have notably secured the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot is closely monitoring Isak’s situation, having already had a bid turned down by Newcastle United. However, Liverpool aren’t alone in their interest. Richard Keys has hinted that Real Madrid could also be preparing a move for the Swedish striker.
Keys revealed: “I heard today that Liverpool have made a bid of £110 million—£80m now and £60m next season. But I’ve also heard Real Madrid might be in the frame.”
If Madrid are serious about signing Isak, they’ll need to pay around £150 million. Interestingly, Spurs could play a role in making that possible. According to Fichajes, Tottenham are eyeing Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo.
Sociedad purchased Kubo outright from Real Madrid in 2022, but Madrid still retain 50% of his rights. The winger’s release clause is set at €60 million (£52 million), meaning if Spurs activate it, Madrid would receive half—€30 million (£26 million).
This unexpected cash injection could help fund Madrid’s move for Isak, indirectly hindering Liverpool’s pursuit.
As for Madrid’s plans, it’s unclear whether Xabi Alonso intends to bring in another forward, given he already has Kylian Mbappé, Endrick, and Gonzalo García at his disposal.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are actively seeking to reinforce their attack following the departures of Luis Díaz, Darwin Núñez, and the unfortunate passing of Diogo Jota.
