A former Liverpool player has changed his name after completing a transfer to another Premier League club.
All 20 Premier League teams have now played their opening matches of the 2025/26 season.
As usual, early-season results don’t always accurately predict how the remaining 37 games will unfold.
Some clubs are still looking to strengthen their squads before the September 1 transfer deadline. Liverpool currently leads spending with £293 million spent on seven new signings: Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike, Armin Pecsi, Freddie Woodman, and Giorgi Mamardashvili.
However, the Reds have also generated around £190 million from player sales, including Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Jarell Quansah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Tyler Morton, Nat Phillips, and Caoimhin Kelleher.
One notable transfer involved 19-year-old Scottish winger Ben Doak, who joined Bournemouth on Monday for an initial fee of £20 million, potentially rising by £5 million in add-ons, signing a five-year deal with the south coast club.
Along with changing clubs, the Scotland international has also opted to modify his name.
The winger, who spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough—where he scored three goals and provided seven assists—now wishes to be known as Ben Gannon Doak, incorporating both of his parents’ surnames.
Gannon Doak leaves Liverpool after making ten appearances for the club since his arrival from Celtic in 2021.
“I’m buzzing to be here,” he said in a club interview after completing his move to Bournemouth.
“I feel it’s the right time for me and a great opportunity to play regular football at the highest level. It feels like the perfect fit.
“The team plays attractive, fast-paced football that suits my style, so I couldn’t say no to this chance.”
Tiago Pinto, Bournemouth’s Head of Football Operations, added: “Ben is an exciting young talent who has already proven himself at the top level despite his youth.
“He brings the pace and energy that fits our playing style perfectly, and we look forward to helping him develop his potential at AFC Bournemouth.
“We’re happy to add another player during this window as we continue reinvesting in the squad.”
Gannon Doak, who has earned six caps for Scotland, may make his debut in Bournemouth’s upcoming home game against Wolves on Saturday.
