Newcastle United are facing a new transfer headache as uncertainty over Alexander Isak’s future continues to dominate their summer.
The ongoing saga surrounding Isak has been a major talking point, with the striker pushing for a high-profile move to Liverpool, who are actively seeking reinforcements.
Isak has reportedly gone on strike and missed Newcastle’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Saturday.
In his absence, Anthony Gordon led the line at Villa Park, impressing in the central role and drawing a red card for Ezri Konsa during the 0-0 draw.
After the game, Gordon discussed his performance as a striker in an interview with TNT Sports, which was interrupted by Newcastle fans chanting negatively about Isak.
Manager Eddie Howe also addressed the situation, expressing his desire for a swift resolution:
“I hope it’s resolved quickly, because it’s news around us all the time,” Howe said. “Players have managed to shut that out and perform. We have to continue to do that.”
With the transfer window set to close on September 1, time is running out for clubs to complete their business.
Isak isn’t the only Newcastle player attracting interest. Tino Livramento is reportedly on Manchester City’s radar as they look to replace Kyle Walker, who left the club following a loan spell at AC Milan.
City’s pursuit of Livramento may intensify if they sell Rico Lewis, who is a target for Nottingham Forest. Forest have already agreed a deal for another City academy graduate, James McAtee.
Should Lewis depart, City could make a move for Livramento, and The Times reported last month that they are willing to pay £65 million for the 22-year-old. Newcastle, however, hope to keep him and are preparing a new contract offer to ward off suitors.
In the worst-case scenario, Newcastle risk losing both Isak and Livramento before the window shuts—dealing a significant blow to Eddie Howe’s squad.
