Dan Burn has shared how he and his Newcastle teammates are dealing with the ongoing transfer saga surrounding Alexander Isak.
The 25-year-old striker was left out of the squad for Newcastle’s recent match against Aston Villa, with manager Eddie Howe opting to play Anthony Gordon up front instead. This decision came amid growing speculation about Isak’s future, as Liverpool continues to pursue the Swedish forward following a rejected £110 million plus add-ons bid earlier this month.
Speaking before the game, Howe told TNT Sports that the situation hadn’t changed in recent weeks and that the team was adapting to Isak’s absence. He emphasized that his focus was fully on the match, calling Villa Park a challenging place to play.
Just a day earlier, Howe had acknowledged that Isak’s future was still uncertain, though he didn’t rule out the possibility of him staying at the club.
Meanwhile, former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer criticized Isak’s handling of the situation during the live match broadcast, questioning the player’s loyalty and saying his actions were “not the right way” to go about things.
Amid all this, Dan Burn addressed the squad’s mindset ahead of the Villa game. When asked whether the drama had brought the team closer together, Burn responded:
“I think so. There’s obviously a lot of outside noise, but we have a really tight-knit group and we just get on with things. We’ve now gone about four or five weeks without Alex, so we’re used to not having him involved at the moment.
“But we’ve got players ready to step up and contribute with goals, and we’re ready for the challenge.”
