Liverpool supporters are convinced that the Alexander Isak transfer saga is effectively over following a new twist in Newcastle’s hunt for a striker.
With Darwin Núñez and Luis Díaz already out the door, Liverpool have been pushing hard to sign the Swedish forward, reportedly submitting a £110 million bid that Newcastle immediately rejected, insisting Isak is not for sale.
Despite qualifying for the Champions League, Newcastle have faced a frustrating transfer window, missing out on several key targets like Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Šeško.
One of their more recent links has been Porto striker Samu Aghehowa, with The Athletic’s David Ornstein reporting that Newcastle were eyeing the Spanish international. Samu, who nearly joined Chelsea last season, had an impressive debut year in Portugal, scoring 27 goals.
However, speculation about his future was seemingly addressed during Porto’s recent win over Vitória SC, where Samu scored twice. After one of his goals, he kissed the Porto badge and pointed to the ground — a gesture widely interpreted as a commitment to staying at the club.
Fans quickly reacted on social media. One wrote, “I’m gonna take a wild guess and say he’s not going anywhere,” while another said, “Newcastle got my man kissing the badge.” Others concluded that with Samu staying, Isak would remain at Newcastle too.
One Newcastle supporter summed it up: “Samu kissing the Porto badge and pointing to the ground – he’s clearly staying. Time to forget about signing him.”
According to Ornstein, Newcastle’s failure to secure a new striker makes a sale of Isak unlikely, with Eddie Howe hopeful the Swedish star will stay and be reintegrated into the squad. However, Isak is still keen on a move to Liverpool and sees his time at St James’ Park as over, regardless of whether a transfer happens before the window shuts.
