Liverpool manager Arne Slot has excluded one player from his squad for the Community Shield due to transfer interest from another Premier League club.
The Reds will face FA Cup champions Crystal Palace at Wembley in the traditional season opener.
This game provides Slot with a chance to evaluate all four of his new signings in a competitive environment.
Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike all started at Wembley, with Virgil van Dijk leading the team as captain.
Kerkez was chosen over vice-captain Andy Robertson to play left-back, leaving Robertson on the bench.
This choice seems to have come at the expense of Kostas Tsimikas, who was left out of the squad entirely.
The Greek international is now Liverpool’s third-choice left-back and, according to The Times journalist Paul Joyce, he is expected to leave the club soon.
Joyce reports that Nottingham Forest showed interest in Tsimikas earlier this summer, along with other Premier League and European clubs.
Liverpool are said to only consider a permanent transfer for the player, suggesting he may have played his final game for the Reds.
Will Tsimikas depart Liverpool? Tsimikas, 29, joined Liverpool in the summer of 2020 and has made 115 appearances across all competitions.
Fans anticipated that if Liverpool signed a new left-back this summer, Tsimikas would likely be the one to leave.
However, in a recent Instagram post following Liverpool’s 3-1 pre-season win over Preston North End, Tsimikas hinted that he did not expect to depart.
He captioned the post: “Episode 1 Season 6.”
Whether he will feature for Liverpool or face them this season is yet to be determined.
