Liverpool have made major additions to their squad since winning the Premier League title in May, and several of Arne Slot’s summer signings could make their competitive debuts at Wembley this Sunday.
The Reds are set to face Crystal Palace—last season’s FA Cup champions—in the traditional season opener at the national stadium. With close to £300 million already spent during this transfer window and more signings potentially on the way, Slot will have a deep squad to choose from.
Florian Wirtz is the headline signing of the summer, arriving for a British-record fee of £116 million including add-ons. He’s expected to be in the starting lineup.
Hugo Ekitike is likely to lead the attack, as Darwin Nunez appears close to finalizing a move to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League. Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez are also in contention to start.
Ahead of the match, Mirror Football has predicted Liverpool’s possible starting XI as they aim to secure more silverware.
Giorgi Mamardashvili joined Liverpool last summer but remained at Valencia for an additional season. The Georgian goalkeeper is now with the squad, although Alisson remains the clear first-choice and is expected to start.
In front of him, new additions could feature from the outset. Jeremie Frimpong will likely battle Conor Bradley for the right-back position following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s transfer to Real Madrid. Milos Kerkez is the probable starter at left-back, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate forming the central defensive pairing.
With Ryan Gravenberch suspended for the Premier League opener and Alexis Mac Allister just returning from injury, Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai are the likely midfield duo.
Up front, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo should take the wide roles. Florian Wirtz is set to play as the No. 10, and the former Bayer Leverkusen star will be eager to impress in his debut.
Leading the line should be Hugo Ekitike, with Nunez’s departure imminent. However, that role could change during the season if Liverpool succeed in their pursuit of Alexander Isak.
