With six new players already signed—and rumors suggesting more could be on the way—Paul Scholes has highlighted one player he believes would be the ‘perfect’ addition for the Reds.

Focusing on defense, where the club has added Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Giorgi Mamardashvili, Scholes has identified Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi as an ideal next signing. He considers Guehi a ‘perfect’ fit for Liverpool’s defensive needs.

After losing Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid and promising centre-back Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen, Scholes suggests Liverpool should replace these English defenders with another proven Premier League centre-back—Marc Guehi.
With Ibrahima Konate’s contract expiring in 2026 and Real Madrid reportedly monitoring the situation, Scholes recommends Liverpool pursue Guehi. Previously linked to Newcastle, Scholes shared his view on The Overlap (via Metro):
“Jamie Carragher mentioned last year a left-sided centre-back. Palace fans won’t like this, but I think Guehi is absolutely perfect for that role… Would you spend £50 million on a player with just a year left on his contract? But looking at Guehi, I think he’s probably worth it.”

The English international defender began at Chelsea’s Cobham academy before moving to Swansea City on loan, where he made 59 appearances. Deemed surplus to Chelsea’s needs, Guehi transferred to Crystal Palace, where he’s played over four seasons and earned the captaincy.
With more than 150 appearances for Palace and 23 caps for England, Guehi has proven himself a top defender ready to step up to a Big Six club—whether Liverpool will be that club remains to be seen.
