Paul Joyce has reported that Liverpool are willing to invest heavily in Alexander Isak this month but may hesitate to meet Newcastle’s high asking price for the striker.
Liverpool’s initial bid of £110 million was rejected by Newcastle (The Athletic), who reportedly value the Swedish forward at a staggering £150 million (Keith Downie).
The 25-year-old has recently been training separately under Eddie Howe and was left out of a team bonding event on Wednesday. Tyneside journalist Lee Ryder hinted that Liverpool might submit a second offer soon.
What did Joyce say about Liverpool and Isak?
While discussing the situation on Off The Ball, Joyce explained that Liverpool are ready to spend on Isak, but Newcastle’s current failure to secure a replacement complicates any potential sale.
He commented: “Until Newcastle resolves their recruitment, it’s difficult for Liverpool’s interest to progress. I don’t see Newcastle letting go of their top striker, who was key to their Champions League qualification and their Carabao Cup win over Liverpool at Wembley.
“Liverpool are prepared to spend money, but I doubt they will meet Newcastle’s £150 million valuation, which they likely see as overpriced.”
Liverpool might need outside factors to sway the deal
Though Benjamin Sesko’s preference to join Manchester United doesn’t directly affect Liverpool, it could reduce Newcastle’s willingness to sell Isak if they struggle to land their preferred replacements.
The transfer market often works like a chain reaction, where one move depends on another happening first.
Liverpool clearly want to sign the 25-year-old, who also wants to join Anfield, but nothing will happen without Newcastle’s approval.
Joyce is likely correct in saying Liverpool won’t pay £150 million for Isak, despite their strong financial position this summer from player sales and signings.
Richard Hughes remains hopeful about securing the striker, though a move may rely on external circumstances favoring Liverpool.
In the meantime, another bid from Liverpool is expected soon, with Newcastle’s response eagerly awaited.
