Liverpool fans have received some welcome news ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Crystal Palace.
The Reds kick off their 2025/26 season at Wembley, facing the FA Cup holders in a battle for the first trophy of the new campaign. Liverpool will be aiming to claim the Community Shield for the second time in four years.
When Liverpool last won the Shield in 2022 against Manchester City, Darwin Nunez scored on his official debut. However, the Uruguayan won’t feature this weekend as he’s set to complete his transfer to Al-Hilal.

Alisson Becker has returned to training with the squad after taking time off to be with his wife during her surgery in Brazil. The club shared photos from Thursday’s session showing a smiling Alisson rejoining the team ahead of the Wembley fixture.
While Giorgi Mamardashvili impressed with two excellent saves in Monday’s game against Athletic Bilbao, manager Arne Slot now faces the pleasant dilemma of choosing whether to continue giving the Georgian goalkeeper chances or to reinstate Alisson, who has only played once in pre-season.
Similar to when Caoimhin Kelleher served as Alisson’s deputy, Liverpool are fortunate to have such strong goalkeeping options, a luxury many Premier League clubs would envy.
Alisson missed three months last season due to injuries, but with Mamardashvili ready to step in if needed, Liverpool have solid cover.
