Rumors have swirled around the Swedish international ever since he was excluded from Newcastle’s squad for their pre-season Far East tour. Officially it was due to injury, but many suspect it’s because of uncertainty over his immediate future.
Liverpool had a £110 million bid for the striker rejected by Newcastle last week (The Athletic). However, a dramatic update from Tyneside today could revive the Premier League champions’ hopes of signing the 25-year-old.
Isak Forced to Train Separately at Newcastle
According to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie (via X), Isak has been instructed to train alone and only come to Newcastle’s training ground after his teammates have left.
He skipped the squad training session this morning, and manager Eddie Howe organized a family day event for players and their families this afternoon—seemingly a pointed message to the Swedish striker.

Howe’s Tough Approach May Boost Liverpool’s Transfer Chances
Liverpool’s hopes to sign Isak looked bleak recently after Benjamin Sesko chose Manchester United over Newcastle, with United progressing on a deal for the Slovenian striker from RB Leipzig.
Liverpool had been told they wouldn’t get Isak unless Newcastle signed a top replacement, but Howe’s disciplinary stance toward the 25-year-old might open the door for a transfer.
It’s unclear how long Isak will remain sidelined, but if he is kept out for an extended time, Newcastle may consider selling one of their highest earners (Isak reportedly makes £120,000 per week, according to Capology).
If Newcastle cash in on Isak this month, it would be a bitter way to end his successful three years at the club—but Liverpool won’t mind if it means acquiring him as a potential replacement for the likely-departing Darwin Núñez.
Given the drama so far without a transfer happening, it’s hard to say what will happen next, but Isak’s current treatment at Newcastle could give Liverpool renewed hope of securing the deal.
