Newcastle United are reportedly facing yet another setback as their difficult transfer window drags on.
This summer, the Magpies—who will be competing in the Champions League next season—have brought in Anthony Elanga for €61.40 million, secured Aaron Ramsdale on loan, and signed Antonito Cordero on a free transfer.
Despite these additions, Newcastle have been turned down by several transfer targets.
For instance, striker Hugo Ekitike chose to join Liverpool instead of moving to the North East.
Similarly, RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko seems to prefer a move to Manchester United over Newcastle. The club has also missed out on players such as Bryan Mbeumo, Joao Pedro, and James Trafford.
Newcastle are keen to sign a new striker after Alexander Isak expressed interest in leaving.
They have been linked with names like Ollie Watkins, Lois Openda, Nicolas Jackson, and Yoane Wissa.
On the defensive side, Eddie Howe is reportedly aiming to bolster the backline.
Newcastle were linked with Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who could depart Selhurst Park this summer as his contract expires after the 2025/26 season.
The BBC reports that Newcastle submitted three offers to sign Guehi in the 2024 summer transfer window.
Earlier this year, Tottenham Hotspur also made a £70 million bid for the defender, which was rejected.
Guehi stayed at Palace and helped them win the FA Cup, defeating Manchester City in the final at Wembley.
However, new reports suggest Guehi has a preferred club if he leaves Palace, which is another blow for Newcastle.
According to The Mirror, the 25-year-old defender would rather join Liverpool if Palace decide to sell him this summer. The Eagles have valued him at around £40 million.
It’s said that the England international is content at Palace and may be willing to see out the final year of his contract.
Guehi is expected to feature when Palace face Liverpool in the FA Community Shield final at Wembley this weekend.
