Renowned journalist Paul Joyce has provided a significant update on Liverpool’s interest in Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
On Thursday morning, Newcastle announced that Isak missed the squad’s pre-season tour in Asia due to an injury.
However, just hours later, reports emerged that Isak had informed Newcastle of his desire to seek a transfer away from the club.
Following this development, Fabrizio Romano claimed that the Swedish forward prioritizes a move to Liverpool.
Romano stated on social media: “Once again: Alexander Isak wants Liverpool, it’s his priority as reported. No talks with Al Hilal, Chelsea or Manchester United.”
On Friday afternoon, Liverpool correspondent Joyce, who writes for The Times, updated fans on the ongoing transfer situation.
Joyce highlighted that Newcastle’s position remains firm — Isak is not for sale. Unless Newcastle changes their stance, Liverpool will have to ‘remain admirers from afar.’
It’s also been suggested that Liverpool may need to offer around £150 million to convince Newcastle to sell.
The report noted: “When Liverpool approached Newcastle early last week about Isak’s availability, it’s believed they proposed a bid between £120 million and £130 million for the Swedish striker.
“Even if Newcastle were to give in to player pressure and allow Isak to leave, there’s no guarantee those figures would be sufficient to complete the transfer. A fee of £150 million has been mentioned.”
This summer, Liverpool have already invested nearly £300 million, signing players like Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Freddie Woodman, Armin Pecsi, and Ekitike.
In addition to Isak, other players such as Rodrygo, Marc Guehi, and Anthony Gordon have also been linked with potential moves to the Premier League champions.
