Liverpool are reportedly eyeing Aston Villa centre-back Ezri Konsa as a potential addition to bolster their defence this summer.
The Reds have already been active in the transfer market, signing Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez, with Hugo Ekitike also expected to join, according to The Athletic and other outlets.
However, concerns are mounting over Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation. The French defender has yet to agree to a new deal and could leave on a free next summer. There’s also a possibility Liverpool could entertain offers for him this year.
According to Galicia Press, Konsa has emerged as a potential replacement if Konate departs, possibly for Real Madrid. While Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi remains Liverpool’s top target, Konsa is being considered as a more affordable alternative.
The 27-year-old England international, who has been a consistent and dependable presence for Villa since joining in 2019, could represent a value signing for the Reds. Still, some supporters might prefer a more high-profile addition, especially given Konate’s standing as one of Europe’s top defenders.
Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore also backed Konsa in a recent CaughtOffside column, stating that while Konate is important, he isn’t irreplaceable. Collymore suggested that Liverpool could find or develop stronger options if Konate chooses not to renew his contract.
