Newcastle may be facing a tough decision regarding Alexander Isak, as the striker’s hefty contract demands cast doubt over his long-term future at the club.
According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook and Joe Moore, the Swedish forward is seeking a massive £300,000-a-week salary to extend his stay at St James’ Park — a figure that would place him among the top 10 earners in the Premier League.
Although Newcastle are eager to retain their star man and have made it clear the 25-year-old is “not for sale,” serious interest from Liverpool and clubs in Saudi Arabia has put pressure on that stance.
Isak sent home amid growing speculation
Despite being under contract until 2028, there’s growing belief that this summer could be Newcastle’s best opportunity to cash in on Isak — especially if they’re unwilling to meet his wage demands.
Liverpool have already made an approach and are reportedly ready to submit a major offer if Newcastle begin to soften their position.
Fueling the uncertainty, Isak was excluded from Newcastle’s recent pre-season match against Celtic, having been sent home by manager Eddie Howe as rumors about his future intensified. The striker is believed to be feeling “unsettled” and could be at a key turning point in his career.
Can Liverpool afford both Ekitike and Isak?
Isak, who netted 27 goals last season — including the Carabao Cup winner against Liverpool at Wembley — has proven himself as a top-level striker.
However, with Liverpool already set to complete a £78 million deal for Hugo Ekitike, it’s unclear whether they would pursue a second high-profile striker signing in the same window.
Still, plenty of fans would love to see both players at Anfield. Liverpool’s interest in Isak remains alive, especially after also breaking their transfer record to sign playmaker Florian Wirtz earlier this summer.
In the end, whether Isak becomes a realistic target may come down to Newcastle’s willingness to compromise on his contract demands.
