Newcastle have set a new asking price for Alexander Isak following Eddie Howe’s remarks about a potential Liverpool transfer, but it appears there might be a typo involved.

Newcastle have reportedly set a new asking price that Liverpool must meet if they want to sign Alexander Isak this summer.

The 25-year-old Isak has attracted interest from Liverpool recently, with both clubs also competing to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, who now looks set to join Liverpool despite Newcastle’s rumored £70 million offer.

Interest in Isak seemed to have died down, but earlier today, he was left out of Eddie Howe’s squad for Newcastle’s 4-0 loss to Celtic in Glasgow.

Initially, it was said that Isak’s omission was unrelated to transfer speculation, with the club stating it was to manage his playing time in preseason due to a recurring groin injury.

However, Howe’s unusual comments after the match added to the speculation and caused concern among Newcastle fans.

“He traveled back to Glasgow with us, but I sent him home because of the ongoing rumors,” Howe said. “He didn’t want to be stuck watching from the stands, and I felt that was unfair. But I’m confident he will still be a Newcastle player by the end of the transfer window.”

Howe also mentioned, “Yes, I’ve talked with him, but that’s normal. I respect players’ careers because they’re short. Alex has been excellent, training hard, and I understand there will be noise around him.”

Later on Saturday, The Telegraph reported that Liverpool are prepared to offer £120 million for Isak.

Still, Newcastle are reportedly firm on their £150 million asking price, despite earlier reports valuing Isak at £120 million.

This valuation surpasses the Premier League’s highest transfer fee to date—the £106 million Chelsea paid Benfica for Enzo Fernandez in 2023.

So far this summer, Newcastle have made only one major signing: winger Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest for around £52 million.

After the defeat in Glasgow, Howe called Isak “irreplaceable.”

He said, “We have a few players who are irreplaceable. Top players are very rare and difficult to find, recruit, and develop. When you have them, you need to value them. We, as staff, recognize Alex’s talent and really want to keep him in the squad.

“I can’t guarantee anything about any player’s future; that’s football and things can change. But I can say Alex is happy here, he loves the team and staff.”
