Former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is reportedly being lined up for a free transfer move to another Premier League club.
Fondly remembered by fans at both the Emirates and Anfield, Oxlade-Chamberlain enjoyed a successful career at the two clubs, collecting seven major trophies.
He joined Arsenal as a highly rated 17-year-old from Southampton in 2011 and quickly established himself in the first team under Arsène Wenger. His performances also earned him a place in the England squad, going on to win 35 international caps and featuring at Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup.
During his six years at Arsenal, he made 198 appearances and won three FA Cups. In 2017, he made a surprise move to Liverpool for £35 million—a transfer that remains Arsenal’s highest sale.
Although he made a strong start under Jürgen Klopp and looked set to be a long-term fixture for club and country, a severe knee injury halted his momentum, keeping him sidelined for over a year. Ongoing fitness concerns hampered his progress, and Liverpool released him in 2023. Still, he left the club with both Premier League and Champions League medals.
Oxlade-Chamberlain spent the past two seasons at Turkish club Beşiktaş, but after struggling for playing time under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, the club terminated his contract a year early, reportedly paying £1.2 million to end the deal.
Now a free agent at 31, he’s been linked with a return to English football. According to Betfair, Leeds United are the frontrunners to sign him as they seek experienced reinforcements following their promotion back to the Premier League.
The Athletic reports that Leeds are also targeting midfielders Sean Longstaff from Newcastle and Hoffenheim’s Anton Stach. Other clubs said to be interested include fellow promoted sides Sunderland and Burnley, as well as Southampton—Oxlade-Chamberlain’s first club—and Championship side Birmingham City, backed by Tom Brady.
There has also been speculation around a sentimental return to Liverpool or a surprising move to rivals Manchester United.
